WHEN SHOULD YOU TAKE MATERNITY PICTURES?

My Expert Advice for Capturing Your Pregnancy Journey

Pregnancy is a beautiful, transformative journey, and as a maternity photographer, I am passionate about capturing these fleeting moments in all their glory. One of the most common questions I receive is, “When is the best time to take maternity pictures?” The timing of your session is crucial to ensuring that we capture the perfect balance of your glowing bump and your comfort.

The Best Time to Schedule Your Maternity Photo Shoot

In my experience, the ideal time to have your maternity photo shoot is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy. It’s best to book your session well in advance (the sooner, the better). After 28 weeks, your baby bump should be beautifully pronounced, and you’re likely to feel at your best. Your belly has grown enough to be clearly visible in photos, yet you’re not too close to your due date, which can sometimes be exhausting.

At around 28-36 weeks, your body has settled into its pregnancy shape, and your energy levels are generally still good. This is the sweet spot where you can move comfortably, allowing us to create those stunning, graceful poses that truly showcase the beauty of your pregnancy.

Factors to Consider When Scheduling Your Session

While the 28-36 week window is ideal for most, every pregnancy is unique, and there are several factors to consider when choosing your session date. For example, if you’re expecting twins or have a high-risk pregnancy, you might want to schedule your session a bit earlier, around 26-28 weeks, to ensure we capture those precious moments while you’re still feeling your best.

Your comfort is my top priority. I’ve had clients who felt more comfortable scheduling their session earlier due to personal preferences or pregnancy-related conditions. Whatever your situation, I’m here to guide you in making the best decision for your maternity photos.

Planning for Seasonal and Location Preferences

Another important factor in scheduling your maternity photos is the season and location. Whether you dream of an outdoor session in the golden autumn light or a cozy indoor shoot that highlights your intimate connection with your baby, timing is key.

Outdoor sessions are especially beautiful, but they do require us to consider the weather and the time of day. For instance, early morning or late afternoon offers the softest, most flattering light. If you’re leaning towards an indoor session, we have a bit more flexibility, but the timing will still play a crucial role in capturing the best light and mood.

So, when should you take maternity pictures?

Choosing the right time for your maternity photo shoot is about more than just the stage of your pregnancy. It’s about ensuring you feel comfortable, beautiful, and confident so we can create images you’ll treasure for a lifetime. I’m here to help you every step of the way, from selecting the perfect time to ensuring every detail is right.
